The old Guerilla Grower is gone. At 62, he apparantly had a heart attack while climbing down a 40' cliff and fell into a dry creek bed. He layed there for a full day before he was found. This is an irreplaceable loss for our local growing community for the entire cannabis world. Reclusive and eccentric, the purchase of a computer brought him to IC mag, as he loved growing he wanted to share what he knew. For 40 years, he has been a legend here. My grandfather, who had known him since grade school introduced me to him last year and it changed my life.

It is widely known among the old timers around here, that in 1971, Silverback, with his brother and brother in law in Evansville Indiana, developed the original bubblegum strain that is now sold by Thseeds.{the Serious strain is very different than the original}. He said the strain was a cross between several afhgani strains he had recieved from relatives serving in the peace corp in 1968, crossed with a hybrid he recieved while dealing with weed producers in Mexico in 1970. He and my grandfather told me that bikers from oakland California had brought in a couple of horticulturist from Berkley and they were working with mexican growers to produce faster better yeilding weed. My grandfather has a picture of himself, silverback and the bikers that were visiting Silverbacks home, standing next to 50 bricks of the mexican hybrid weed they had developed.

He was a little crazy, but knew more than anyone i have ever met about pot. In 1982, he created a local strain that i am growing this year called " The shit that killed Elvis Presley" and just this year, I was able to get 20 seeds of a his new creation called " The Shit that Killed Micheal Jackson". I have no doubt it would be as successful as bubblegum. Thank god i have f2's cooking and 10 of the originals.

Salute to an old grower. He was tougher than the rattlesnakes around he and smarter than a fox. The police knew him well and would have considered him a prize catch. There were dozens of growers at his funeral. They ranged from 70years old, to 20 yrs old.

Il est resté allongé là une journée entière avant qu'il ne soit trouvé. C'est une perte irremplaçable pour notre communauté locale et pour le monde du cannabis dans son ensemble. Il est bien connu parmi les vieux de la vieille dans le coin, en 1971, Silverback, avec son frère et beau-frère à Evansville en Indiana, a développé la souche bubblegum originale qui est maintenant vendu par THSeeds. {La souche vendu par Serious seeds est très différent de l'original }. Il a dit la souche était un croisement entre plusieurs souches afhgane qu'il avait reçu sur place en servant dans le corp de la paix en 1968, croisé avec un hybride qu'il a reçu en traitant avec les producteurs de MJ au Mexique en 1970. Lui et mon grand-père m'ont dit que les motards de Oakland en Californie avait apporté quelques horticulteur de Berkeley et ils ont travaillé avec les producteurs mexicains afin de produire une herbe plus rapide et a plus gros rendement. Mon grand-père a une image de lui-même avec silverback et les motards qui étaient en visite chez Silverback, debout à côté de 50 briques de la MJ mexicaine, l'hybride qu'ils avaient développé.

Il était un peu fou, mais il connaissait mieux les plantes que personne que j'ai jamais rencontré dans le milieu de la MJ. En 1982, il a créé une souche locale que je suis en train de cultiver cette année, intitulé "La merde qui a tué Elvis Presley"(The shit that killed Elvis Presley) et seulement cette année, j'ai été en mesure d'obtenir 20 graines d'une nouvelle création appelé "La merde qui a tué Michael Jackson"(the shit...). Je ne doute pas que ce serait autant de succès que bubblegum. Dieu merci, j'ai des f2 en route et encore 10 des originaux.

Hommage à un ancien producteur. Il a été plus difficile que les serpents à sonnettes autour de lui et plus intelligent qu'un renard. La police l'a bien connu et l'aurait considéré comme un premier prix. Il y avait des dizaines de producteurs à ses funérailles. Ils avaient de 20 à 70ans.

There are several strains out in the world of cannabis genetics whose origin and further breeding process seem to be unclear. Growers get especially confused, when a certain strain is offered under the same name by two or more seed banks: who has the original one, whose are copies? Bubble Gum is such one contentious strain, of which at least two seed banks do offer their own versions, in this case Serious Seeds and T.H. Seeds (both residing in Amsterdam), not to mention all those internet-based criminal copy cats here. So I decided to trace back the real roots of Bubble Gum. Asking both the above-mentioned breeders resulted in two corresponding versions of the Bubble Gum’s breeding story, giving good reasons for the existence of two high-quality Bubble Gum strains.

A grower in Indiana (USA) developed the original material during the 80ies. In 1993, this guy gave three very different female Bubble Gum plants to Adam from T.H. Seeds as well as to Simon and Tony (the two splitted up shortly after, with Simon founding Serious Seeds and Tony Sagarmatha Seeds) from Cerebral Seeds. So Bubble Gum arrived in the Netherlands in the hands of three breeders. And from that moment on, different new chapters were written in the breeding history of Bubble Gum, its development kind of branched out. Three breeders – three ways of breeding: These seed masters were going to make their own special selection out of the three different genetic types they had received.
